Education
The aim of the project is to work with poorly resourced government aided schools to create a safe and conducive learning environment.
We work with one school at a time, to take care of one need at a time, and in the process will reverse the trend of school dropouts especially for the girl child.
Education
Classrooms
The school is on 7 Acres, which is quite a generous space compared to other schools. There are 5 classroom blocks with only 10 functional classrooms. The oldest block was built in 1970, it is semi-permanent and quite old and is not safe for the children. The classes are not well ventilated and do not have enough light. They definitely don’t provide a conducive environment for learning.
Latrines
The school has two latrine blocks for students and one block for the staff. There are no separate latrines for girls. There is an urgent need to for more latrines and to have separate ones for girls. An additional 4 latrine blocks with 4 cubicles each would improve the general sanitation and hygiene at the school. There is an urgent need to start a sanitary pads project to improve girl’s hygiene and to reduce their absenteeism from school.
Teachers Houses
There is a total of 14 teachers, 10 of them are on the government pay roll and 4 teachers are paid by the parents. The teachers paid by the parents are not qualified teachers, they are poorly paid and their teaching is not up to standard. The school does not have accommodation for teachers at all. The parents are currently struggling to construct a house for the headmaster.
